JU students call-off hunger strike

Jahangirnagar University, May 5 (sunnews.com) – The protesting students of the Jahangirnagar University on Saturday called off their fast-unto-death programme which they have been observing for removal of the vice- chancellor Sharif Enamul Kabir.

The ruling party lawmaker Sarah Begum Kabari went to university campus and offered the protesting students fruit juice to end their hunger strike around 4:15pm. She assured the students of placing their demands to the government.

Five out of eight of the protesting students were earlier taken to the hospital as their condition had deteriorated. They too were brought in front of the VC's residence while breaking the fast.

Earlier, the teachers had called off their strike on Thursday following assurances by the prime minister but the students continued their hunger strike.
